The internet is full of sock contest rules for knitting, sock puppets, designing, and finding lost socks but not for pure sock contests. Our society needs formal rules for such sock contests and I am quite surprised that we have made it so far with out them.

Hosts are judges, but cannot be contestants. The judges work out first, second, and third place amongst themselves, without the interference of contestants. There are prizes. Contestants are automatically ejected from competition if they exceed two technicals. Technicals are issued by the judges for breaking the rules and these are the rules:

The following are dis-allowed:

• plain white socks
• separate toe socks
• holes in socks, except for those affected by the economic downturn
• mismatched socks
• spilling drinks or food
• not recycling
• interfering with the judges
